Simply Natural Organic Farm Highland Cattle

I chose the Highland cattle bred because they are outstandingly magnificent cattle. I love Highland cattle and have the upmost respect for them as a superior animal, my respect for their valuable manure, when fed and grazed in the correct manor is held in the highest esteem. The horns and hoofs of the Highland cattle bred was my first and true attraction. I had done lots of study into Bio-dynamic Agriculture and read of obtaining the highest quality cow manure. The link between the horn and hoof of a cow has significant importance to the forces, energies and influences that is brought into the entire health of the cow, including the cow’s digestive system and further on to the cows manure.

The Highland cow attracted me also because I noted the mothers…. For so called beef cattle, held a generous size udder. This signified to me that the bred was productive in lactation.

Fortunate for me, it was meant to be; just on making the decision to have Highland cattle a local Dorrigo stud was offering cattle for sale. How amazing a rare breed, plus, just what I wanted and here in Dorrigo. On viewing the cattle at the stud I realised that I had been guided here to receive the purpose of this breed. The stud had top quality genetics and truly top quality progeny. The stud owners love and dedication to this breed was obvious.

I selected the 3 best cows of the stud herd, as these would be my foundation cows for my herd. The 3 cows had calves at foot so it was ideal for me to make the selection from inspecting their udders as well as their horns and hoofs. Not surprisingly the 3 cows I selected were also the best confirmation, nature and spirit of the herd. Our family had begun. These 3 cows were extremely valuable to our gardening and farming practices.

As time with the Highlands has accumulated over the years, and the family continues to grow I have learnt that this breed is a breed that easily becomes a close family member.

When I first ever touch our bull, patting him and grooming him, I realise the breed is powerful, strong and solid. These attributes sent through to the manure. Whenever the cattle stand on the knolls, their posture is held in magnificent form, regale and grand. Like the Dorrigo landscape a Highland cow standing posed… takes your breath away… beautiful.

Our Highlands are gentle, loving and friendly. They are peaceful in their grazing and cud chewing and playful, kicking up their heals in play and health in the coolness of the afternoon. We visit all our Highlands in their paddocks most afternoons as they love our contact and we love adoring their beauty.

Some beautiful moments we have had are - the herd standing in front of a huge full moon, - The cows with their winter coats long, flowing and blowing in the wind, - cuddly, bear like, woolly, cute calves… and witnessing the Highlands sheltering the Jersey cow from the rain and cold. This is just a few of the very special moments and beauty of the Highland cattle.

We honour this rare unique breed of cattle; we are breeding yearly and producing top quality offspring. We require the manure from lactating mothers for our Biodynamic practices hence the breeding. We only require a small herd so on occasions we do offer our Highland cattle for sale. They are definitely for sale to genuine good homes only.
